We recently designed CD package design for Dave Douglas, jazz trumpeter and composer, described by some as the most widely revered progressive jazz musician to appear in the past 20 years. A recent review states “Dave Douglas has achieved many deserved accolades, accomplishing what some may have deemed ambitious and lofty goals as a performer, composer, and arranger. A Single Sky represents yet another checkmark from the “to do” list, his first original modern jazz orchestra effort in conjunction with the Frankfurt Radio Bigband.” 4 out of 5 stars.
We’re honored to have helped visualize this great recording. More on Mr. Douglas here: www.davedouglas.com

We recently designed a new logo and identity system for Anew Health, a company looking to rethink the recruitment process for rehabilitative healthcare professionals.
In addition to the logo design, we also got to help them create a three part direct mail campaign. Since most direct mail we get in the mail is full color and glossy and fancy shmancy, we convinced our client to try something (A)new (sorta old too) and different. We got to use some great archival black and white photography with spot colors added to tie in with the new identity. We’d like to think these would make the targeted audience stop for the 2 seconds of attention we have to fight to get!

We recently finished up working with the fine folks over at The Valley of the Vapors Music Festival for this year’s event poster. We’re really happy with where this one ended up, and we thought we’d share some of the process with you here. So, this blog post will be longer than our normal “Keep it short, stupid!” style.
To quote the VoV’s own website, “Traditionally, six year milestones are celebrated with candy and iron. This being The VOV’s sixth annual festival we presented the idea of “Candy and Iron” to Get A Clue Design who was chosen from a group of 25 designers to create this years limited edition silk screen poster and his brilliant brain gave us robots and lollipops!! Get A Clue follows in the footsteps of past VOV poster designers such as Aescetic Apparatus, Nate Duvall, and Jay Ryan.”

Once we had a final pencil stage, we inked that big, bad, hungry-for-candy robot and started adding texture and colors and other elements.
Here’s some photos of the actual screen printing stages. This beast ended up being laid down as a 4 color process with white replacing yellow…whew. Thanks go to Nick and the fine crew at The Half and Half!

And finally, after much blood, sweat and tears, here’s the finished print! (held by our favorite model…)
You can also see more of our work at the awesome GigPosters.com site, here. And feel free to purchase this and many other posters in our shop: http://www.getacluedesign.com/shop/

A few more detail shots to finish it off!

We really enjoyed helping 5 Head Entertainment totally rebrand its image with this new direction. Part of the challenge we had was taking all the different aspects of what 5 Head Entertainment offers (artist management, promotion, a record label) and create a way graphically that ties them all together, as well as one “umbrella” logo mark. Here’s some of the artist 5 Head works with: The Alcazar Hotel, Katharine Whalen (Squirrel Nut Zippers), Jimmy Brown and Carolina Chocolate Drops! Company web site design coming soon.
